Picture this..
You have an idea and you’ve spent a few years dreaming about starting your business. The simple act of making the decision to pursue your dreams is much harder than most people think. Which is why the average person never does it.
If you are lucky, you will have friends and family encouraging you and saying:
- “That’s such a great idea"
- "I think that will definitely work"
- "I wish I had the courage to do what you’re doing”
Now, you’ve done it. You have started your business. What happens then?
- Firstly you get the rude awakening that starting a business is much harden than you thought (but everyday you realise it’s still worth it)
- The friends and family who were so encouraging never actually buy from you or use your service
- And to top it off, when they do they utter the following words:
Can I have a friends and family discount?
The above question is my entire motivation for writing this post.
If you have a friend or family member who has had the courage to wander of the beaten path and start a business ALWAYS pay full price!
Even if they offer you a discount - refuse and pay FULL PRICE. Their business needs it and you can afford to support them. Be better.
And if you really cannot afford to support them; support them in non-financial ways:
- Share their social media posts
- Tell your friends about their business
- Check in and ask how they’re doing
One day when you start a business or need their support with something, you will appreciate not needing to discount yourself in order for them to be willing to support.
